Dan Perlman Directs Debut Feature After TV Success

Dan Perlman, acclaimed co-creator and star of Showtime's Flatbush Misdemeanors, has wrapped the New York City shoot for his feature directorial debut. The untitled coming-of-age comedy is an adaptation of Perlman's award-winning short film, Cramming, reimagined with a new narrative.

The film centers on two determined eighth graders at a prestigious New York City prep school. They assemble a group of outsiders to disrupt the school, aiming to eliminate final exams permanently. Perlman helmed the project, penning his own script.

With a tone reminiscent of Ferris Bueller's Day Off and Election, the cast boasts numerous comedic talents like Maria Bamford, Gary Gulman, Jamie Lee, Sean Patton, and Yamaneika Saunders, alongside Tony winner Laura Benanti and Connie Shi. Promising newcomers Romo Lee and Lucas Adler lead the ensemble.

This project was developed with support from The Gotham's Project Market and Rooftop Films' Filmmakers Fund. Perlman's prior work includes the acclaimed Flatbush Misdemeanors series, which achieved a perfect Rotten Tomatoes score over its two seasons.
