Aykroyd's ancestor: The original Ghostbuster

Actor Dan Aykroyd has shared insights into his family's long-standing connection with the paranormal, referring to his great-grandfather as "the original Ghostbuster." He posted images of Dr. Sam Aykroyd's séance transcripts from the Old Farmhouse on Instagram. These documents from October 21st (2026) highlight a spiritual legacy passed down through generations, which Aykroyd stated directly inspired his own interests.

In previous interviews, Aykroyd elaborated on this "family business." His grandfather, initially a teacher, later became a dentist who used hypnosis and conducted séances, meticulously documenting his experiences. Aykroyd grew up surrounded by publications dedicated to psychical research, making a deep engagement with the paranormal an unavoidable part of his upbringing.

Aykroyd has also spoken about turning to spiritualism during times of grief, such as after the death of his friend John Belushi. He recounted using a medium to communicate with Belushi's spirit, receiving a message about a grandmother named "Nunya," which was confirmed by Jim Belushi.
