Singer Dafydd Owain has won the 2026 Welsh Music Prize for his album Ymarfer Byw. The annual award ceremony, held at Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff on Wednesday, saw Owain take home the £10,000 prize, topping a shortlist of 15 diverse albums.
Owain, originally from Caernarfon, expressed his surprise and emotion, recalling a past performance on the same stage as a nervous 16-year-old choir member. This latest accolade follows his earlier success in August when he won the Welsh Language Album of the Year award for Ymarfer Byw.
The event also recognized Mary Hopkin, a pioneering artist from Pontardawe, Swansea. Hopkin was presented with the Welsh Music Inspiration Award, celebrating her extensive and influential career in music over several decades. Her daughter accepted the award on her behalf and performed a medley of her hits.
