On November 1, 2025, the Los Angeles River Center and Gardens was transformed into a Día de Muertos oasis, thanks to a vibrant gala organized by Mexican-American photographer and influencer Carlos Eric Lopez. The milestone 5th annual event brought together a star-studded guest list, including Camila Cabello, Nicole Richie, and Edgar Ramirez, to celebrate Latino culture and heritage.
The highlight of the evening was the presentation of the "Abuelita Award" by Cabello to her grandmother, Mercedes Rodriguez. Cabello praised her grandmother's bold spirit and unwavering dedication, saying she has been a constant source of inspiration. The event also featured musical performances and the launch of TúTomorrow, a new nonprofit founded by Lopez to empower the next generation of Latino creatives and entrepreneurs.
Throughout the grounds, traditional Día de Muertos ofrendas, or altars, were placed to honor departed loved ones, creating a poignant and impactful atmosphere. The gala was a testament to the vibrant and diverse Latino community in Los Angeles, showcasing their creativity, resilience, and deep-rooted family values.
