Cult Of Youth Frontman Sean Ragon Dies At 45

Sean Ragon, the founder and frontman of the influential goth and punk-rooted band Cult Of Youth, has died at the age of 45. The band announced his passing on Facebook, sharing that their "support over the years" was appreciated and "love will prevail." Ragon, born in Cambridge, Massachusetts, began his music career in the late '90s playing in punk bands. He later explored abrasive electronic music before launching Cult Of Youth around 2010. The project, influenced by pagan folk, goth, punk, and industrial music, quickly gained a fervent underground following.

Cult Of Youth evolved into a full band by 2011, signing with Sacred Bones Records and earning a "Band To Watch" designation. Their albums, including the 2012 release "Love Will Prevail," were noted for their dark, propulsive sound. By 2014's "Final Days," the band's sound had shifted towards a more rock-oriented style. Ragon also established Heaven Street Records in Brooklyn in 2009, which later became Nexus Records. He also managed the Blind Prophet Records label and was involved with the experimental collective Future Blondes.

In his later years, Ragon relocated to Berlin and pursued solo electronic projects, such as Venerence. He also performed with Genesis P-Orridge as a touring member of Psychic TV. In late 2022, Ragon released "With Open Arms," the final Cult Of Youth album, which was compiled from 2015 sessions. His extensive work across various projects solidified his status as a significant and versatile artist in the underground music community.
