Clown Horror Film Gains Cult Following After Decade-Long Rerelease

In November 2025, the 2010 horror film "Clown" is receiving a new lease on life with a remastered Blu-ray release from German distributor Turbine Medien. The movie, which began as a fake trailer created by director Jon Watts and his writing partner Christopher Ford, has gained a cult following over the past decade.

Watts, who went on to direct the recent "Spider-Man" trilogy for Marvel, never expected his feature film debut to become a cult classic. "Clown" struggled with its initial release, being shelved in the U.S. before receiving a limited theatrical run in 2016. However, the film found success overseas, grossing $4.3 million. Now, Turbine Medien is giving the movie the royal treatment, with a 4K Blu-ray remaster and a behind-the-scenes documentary.

For Watts, the rerelease is a pleasant surprise, as he had not thought much about "Clown" in recent years. The director reflects on the film's humble origins as a Halloween prank, and how it unexpectedly led to a career directing major superhero blockbusters. While Watts wishes he had leaned further into the horror elements, he remains open to the possibility of expanding the "Clown" story into a long-running franchise, much like "The Leprechaun."
