A new prequel series, titled "Crystal Lake," is set to delve into the origins of the iconic "Friday the 13th" franchise, focusing on the turbulent life of Pamela Voorhees. Linda Cardellini stars as Pamela, a mother grappling with the devastating loss of her young son, Jason, who drowned in the titular lake. The narrative will incorporate flashbacks to young Jason's life, depicted by Callum Vinson, highlighting his hydrocephalus.
The series is described by creator Brad Caleb Kane as a psychological thriller with "paranoid '70s thriller" DNA, incorporating "ingenious kill sequences" while prioritizing character and theme. Cardellini noted the show's "odd" yet "fun ride" tone, suggesting it blends genres. The story kicks off when two strangers arrive, probing Pamela's past and initiating a disturbing chain of events.
Several characters from the original "Friday the 13th" film are set to return, including camp counselors Claudette and Barry, now portrayed by Danielle Kotch and Phoenix Parnevik, respectively. Officer Dorf and Crazy Ralph will also reappear, played by Cameron Scoggins and Nick Cordileone. New additions include William Catlett as Officer Levon Brooks and Devin Kessler as his journalist sister, Brianna.
"Crystal Lake" will premiere all eight episodes on Peacock on October 15, 2026. This prequel aims to explore Pamela's psychology and unraveling after her son's death, offering a character-driven narrative rooted in her grief and the circumstances that prevent her from finding equilibrium.
