The 2025 Thessaloniki International Film Festival, set to run from October 30th to November 9th, will showcase 12 new works as part of its Meet The Neighbors+ competition sidebar. Among the highlights is the highly anticipated feature 'God Will Not Help' from Croatian filmmaker Hana Jušić, which debuted at this year's Locarno Film Festival.
The jury for the Meet The Neighbors+ competition will feature a diverse panel, including Iranian-Swedish filmmaker Ali Abbasi, Greek actress Sofia Kokkali, and German film funding expert Kirsten Niehuus. The top prize in this section is the prestigious Golden Alexander "Michel Demopoulos" for Best Full-length Feature Film, which comes with a 10,000-euro cash prize to be shared equally between the producer and director.
Jušić's 'God Will Not Help' follows a Chilean woman, Teresa, who arrives in an isolated mountain community of Croatian shepherds in the early 20th century, claiming to be the widow of their émigré brother. Her presence disrupts the community's dynamics but also inspires the other women. Jušić is known for her previous work, including the award-winning 'Quit Staring at My Plate' (2016).
