New York hardcore pioneers Cro-Mags have released their first new track in six years, titled "Wired for Chaos." This aggressive song, sharing its name with a documentary about frontman Harley Flanagan, combines metal and hardcore thrash elements.
Flanagan explained that the lyrics delve into his personal struggles, describing the song as being about being "programmed and wired for chaos from birth" due to parental influence, childhood trauma, and resulting PTSD. He also noted the song's music video, directed by Rex Miller, incorporates performance and behind-the-scenes footage from recent tours, evoking the style of their 1986 video for "We Gotta Know."
The release signifies the band's first new music since their 2020 album, "In the Beginning." "Wired for Chaos" is also their debut for the metal label BLKIIBLK and is expected to be featured on an upcoming album due next year. Cro-Mags are set to embark on a European tour from June through August, with U.S. festival appearances scheduled for September and October.
