27 May
Summary
- Voit confronts a podcaster spreading lies about his government training.
- He experiences memory loss, leading to empathy for past crimes.
- Voit now aims to atone and faces a new threat, 'The Fan'.
The season 19 premiere of Criminal Minds: Evolution features Elias Voit confronting a podcaster spreading false narratives about his past, highlighting his disdain for misinformation. Voit's narrative has dramatically shifted following a bout of memory loss, which has unexpectedly instilled in him empathy and disgust for his previous horrific deeds.
Voit, formerly the primary antagonist known as Sicarius and linked to 62 murders, is now serving time with a conscience. His journey focuses on atonement, a stark contrast to his past as a mastermind of an online network of serial killers.
This season pushes the BAU to their limits as Voit's path to redemption inadvertently unleashes a new, dangerous foe named 'The Fan.' This meticulously calculating UnSub is relentlessly pursuing superiority over his idol, Voit, creating a complex dynamic for the BAU as they investigate chilling new cases.
Showrunner Erica Messer aimed to evoke sympathy for Voit, a strategy that began in season one by portraying him as a family man. Season 18 saw him grappling with the realization of his past actions, leading to 'heartbreaking' scenes as he confronts the man he once was.
