Zach Cregger, acclaimed for his recent horror successes Barbarian and Weapons, is pivoting back to his comedic origins with a new dark comedy titled 'Little One.' This project will serve as the feature directorial debut for Cregger's friend, Alex Kavutskiy, who also penned the script. The film's narrative centers on a sudden shift in a child's behavior, posing a significant threat to an otherwise idyllic family.
Cregger, a founding member of the New York comedy troupe The Whitest Kids U' Know, is reuniting with producer Roy Lee for this venture. Chris McEwen, Amanda Phillips, and Melina Torres are also producing. Hammerstone Studios is providing the financing for 'Little One,' marking a collaboration with Cregger following their previous work on Barbarian.
Production for 'Little One' is scheduled to commence in Los Angeles in June. The film has already secured a California tax credit, indicating financial backing and support for its production. Ibrahim Mohammed and Chase Vigari are set to serve as executive producers and co-financiers, with additional EPs including David Goldman, Michael Lerner, and Karina Manishil.
Alex Kavutskiy brings a diverse directing background, including the Sundance short Squirrel and the Adult Swim special Cool Dad. He has also co-authored a book on the television series Survivor, slated for release this spring. Cregger recently completed his Resident Evil film and is developing a prequel to Weapons. Roy Lee has had a successful year with projects like A Minecraft Movie and has supernatural horror film Hokum upcoming.
