A new series of pop-up events at Coventry's Herbert Art Gallery and Museum is inviting residents to contribute to an exhibition celebrating the heritage of local South Asian communities. The exhibition, titled 'Stories That Made Us - Roots, Resilience, Representation,' runs until May 25th. Since its opening in November, the exhibit has gathered over 300 handwritten memories detailing experiences of migration, racism, and belonging.
The upcoming 'Our Stories and Heritage' pop-up events, scheduled for next week from Monday to Thursday, offer a platform for visitors to share their own memories. Activities will include a poetry workshop, a spoken-word performance, and opportunities to record oral histories with Coventry Archives. The project was initiated by Coventry artist and curator Hardish Virk, who uses his family's story from 1968 to 2010 as the exhibition's core.
