Court Halts Film Depicting Journalist as Gangster
8 Feb
Summary
- Court rejected plea to halt film based on alleged false portrayal.
- Film allegedly misrepresents journalist Hussain Ustara as a gangster.
- Family claims Ustara worked with police against Dawood Ibrahim's gang.

A sessions court in Maharashtra has dismissed a plea seeking to halt the release of the Shahid Kapoor-starrer 'O Romeo.' The film's makers received legal clearance for its February 13 release after the court rejected a motion filed by Sanober Shaikh, daughter of the late Hussain Ustara.
Shaikh had argued the film was loosely based on her father's life and damaged his reputation, claiming he was a journalist aiding government agencies, not a gangster as suggested by the trailer. The suit detailed Ustara's alleged conflict with Dawood Ibrahim's D-Company and stated his murder on September 11, 1998, was to reassert Dawood's dominance.
While the notice of motion was dismissed, the main civil suit challenging the film's portrayal of Ustara is scheduled to be heard on March 12. Legal observers anticipate the case may move to the Bombay High Court, potentially leading to a prolonged legal battle over the depiction of Ustara's controversial past.
