Couple's Spooky Proposal at Stephen King's Haunted Mansion

In November 2025, a Brazilian couple, Bruno Soler and Adriana Blasquez, traveled to Bangor, Maine, to visit the former home of renowned horror author Stephen King. The couple, who have been together for 13 years, were shocked when Bruno got down on one knee and proposed to Adriana in front of the iconic "blood-red" Victorian mansion.

"There's a saying from Stephen King that says everything happens in Maine, so I took the opportunity because she's such a huge fan of him," Bruno told NBC10 Boston. Adriana, who has been reading King's books since her teenage years, described the special proposal as a "dream come true."

Since King and his wife, Tabitha, decided to leave their Bangor residence in favor of their home in Florida, the Bangor City Council approved the author's request to rezone his property as a nonprofit in 2019. The mansion has since been transformed into a museum that houses an archive of King's work, which was formerly kept at the University of Maine, as well as a writer's retreat for a small group of creatives.

"The King Family has been wonderful to the City of Bangor over time and have donated literally millions of dollars to various causes in the community," City Councilor Ben Sprague told Rolling Stone. "Preserving his legacy here in Bangor is important for this community."
