An artist from Saltash, Louise Pasterfield, is set to present a portrait she painted of Chris Parry, a Cornish man tragically killed while performing aid work in Ukraine. Chris Parry, aged 28 and originally from Truro, lost his life in January 2023, alongside fellow volunteer Andrew Bagshaw, during an attempt to evacuate a woman from a heavily bombarded region in eastern Ukraine. His story was notably featured in the BBC documentary 'Hell Jumper.'
Pasterfield's exhibition, titled 'Colour and Courage,' showcases approximately 300 portraits of individuals impacted by the ongoing conflict since February 2022. The exhibition is accessible free of charge at St Stephen's Church in Saltash and runs from May 28th to May 31st. The artist views these portraits as her method of "bearing witness," emphasizing that each subject possesses a name and a story that deserves recognition. The opening evening on May 28th will include the presentation of Chris Parry's portrait to his parents.
