6 Nov
Summary
- Murdaugh's lawyers say Hulu series contains "numerous inaccuracies"
- Depiction of Murdaugh's relationships with family is "particularly troubling"
- Hulu did not reach out to Murdaugh or his family to verify facts

As the Hulu true crime series "Murdaugh: Death in the Family" approaches its November 19th finale, the disgraced patriarch at the center of the story has spoken out against the show's depiction of his life. According to Alex Murdaugh's legal team, the series contains "numerous inaccuracies and misleading portrayals that distort the truth" about the Murdaugh family.
The lawyers say the show's portrayal of Murdaugh's personal relationships is "particularly troubling," as it "totally mischaracterizes" his bonds with his wife, Maggie, and son, Paul, both of whom he "loves so dearly." They also accuse the show's writers of failing to reach out to Murdaugh, his family, or his attorneys during the development process to "hear their perspective or verify the facts."
Instead, the lawyers claim, the program "appears to rely heavily on sensationalized accounts from secondary sources with no direct knowledge or relationship" with the Murdaugh family. This lack of engagement from the Hulu producers and actors is described as "equally concerning" by Murdaugh's defense team.
As the fallout from the Murdaugh saga continues to unfold, the family's perspective on the Hulu series' depiction of their story remains a point of contention. The convicted murderer and his lawyers have made it clear they believe the show has failed to accurately represent the truth of their lives.
