Summary
- Players encouraged to explore side content in open world areas.
- Control Resonant features a warped Manhattan as its open setting.
- Linear 'dungeons' offer a contrast to the overworld exploration.

Remedy Entertainment is prioritizing player exploration in Control Resonant, encouraging engagement with side content scattered throughout its open-world environments. The game is set in a dramatically transformed Manhattan, offering a stark departure from the interior focus of its predecessor.
Lead level designer Anne-Marie Grönroos highlighted the team's ambition to immerse players, stating, "We want the player to kind of get lost in the world in a good way." This expansive open world allows for more distinct zones and visible landmarks, a design possibility limited in the first game.
In addition to the exploration-heavy overworld, Control Resonant will feature linear "dungeons." Grönroos described these as offering a "really nice contrast" to the broader world, providing focused, story-driven experiences that differ from the main exploration loop.
