Connaught Place Artwork Pathway Widened for Selfies
15 Sep
Summary
- Pathway to artwork to be widened from four to seven feet.
- Delhi Urban Arts Commission reviewed artwork at conceptual stage.
- Commission sought clearer details on materials and installation.
A proposed art installation at Connaught Place's Central Park is undergoing revisions following observations from the Delhi Urban Arts Commission (DUAC). The commission has mandated a widening of the pathway leading to the artwork from four feet to seven feet to better manage anticipated crowds and selfie-taking visitors. This modification addresses concerns about space and visitor flow in a highly frequented area.
The DUAC reviewed the artwork conceptually on December 26, 2024, requesting further details on materials, fixation methods, lighting, and solar panel usage. They also advised modifying the arrangement of planters and vegetation to ensure clear movement for visitors.
While the proposal was found conceptually suitable in an August meeting, provided these observations are incorporated, it awaits formal approval. The artwork will be reassessed against the DUAC's criteria and requires statutory approval from the local body under the DUAC Act, 1973.
