The off-beat documentary "The History of Concrete" has crossed the $2 million mark in ticket sales, achieving this milestone within 25 days of its release. This success is particularly noteworthy for a non-fiction film and highlights the directorial appeal of John Wilson, known for his cult favorite HBO series "How To."
The film, which explores urbanism and architecture with Wilson's signature absurdist style, was acquired by the indie studio Magnolia at the Sundance Film Festival. It has since become a significant hit, especially at the IFC Center, where it has grossed over $300,000, positioning it among the venue's top-grossing titles.
"The History of Concrete" is currently playing on 172 screens in North America, including 11 in Canada, and is expected to drop to 125 screens this weekend. Distributor Magnolia has expressed delight at the film's performance, noting its unique theatrical trajectory. The film also recently garnered four Critic's Choice nominations, including for best documentary feature and best first documentary feature.
