A stand-up comedy clip featuring Madhur Virli has generated significant online backlash. The video, from his 2024 show 'Love & Latex,' includes remarks about rape that many viewers found deeply offensive and trivializing. Specifically, a joke about 'cuddling after rape' and subsequent violence drew sharp criticism for reducing a traumatic experience to humor.
Beyond the comedian's words, the audience's reaction of laughter in the clip has also been a focal point of public disapproval. Critics argue that such humor normalizes harmful attitudes toward sexual violence. Virli has not publicly commented on the controversy and has deactivated his social media accounts.
This incident occurs amidst other recent controversies in the comedy circuit. A clip from Pranit More's show also faced scrutiny for remarks concerning cadavers and a separate joke implying sexual entitlement in exchange for a meal. These events collectively fuel an ongoing debate about the boundaries of acceptable humor, particularly concerning sensitive topics like sexual assault and disrespect towards body donors.
