In a recent interview, comedian Marc Maron has taken responsibility for his longstanding feud with fellow comedian Jon Stewart. Maron, 62, admits the feud was "petty" and "fully fueled by insecurity" on his part, rather than any wrongdoing by Stewart.
Maron explains that when he was starting out in comedy, he was jealous of the success and career trajectory of the then-also-62-year-old Stewart. Maron felt Stewart, as "this smart, cute Jewish guy," was able to "understand his talent, harness it and then figure out how to capitalize on it." In contrast, Maron felt he "never had any control over my talent" as a young comedian.
Maron says he would often "s--- on" Stewart "to his face," asking "Who the f--- do you think you are?" as Stewart's fame and prominence continued to grow. However, Maron now acknowledges that Stewart "never did anything" to him, and that his resentment was misplaced.
Maron even claims he invited Stewart to appear on his podcast, which ended last month, but Stewart declined, saying "there's no love here." Stewart did, however, wish Maron "good luck" with his podcast endeavors.
