Nearly 25 years ago, the Canadian town of Gander provided refuge for approximately 7,000 airline passengers and crew stranded when US airspace closed following the 9/11 attacks. Thirty-eight aircraft were diverted to Gander, Newfoundland, a situation that nearly doubled the town's population. Residents initiated 'Operation Yellow Ribbon', opening their homes and providing essential care for the unexpected visitors.
The inspiring true story of Gander's compassion and the connections forged during this crisis has been adapted into the award-winning musical, Come From Away. The musical is currently being performed by various amateur theatre groups following the availability of performance licenses.
This acclaimed production is set to open at Birmingham's Crescent Theatre on April 25th. The director noted the musical's heart-warming narrative and its appeal to a diverse cast, with many characters representing middle-aged and older individuals. The Crescent Theatre's amateur company, known for its high production standards, features 18 actors portraying around 50 roles in this ensemble piece.
