- The case puts Colter and Russell's lives in danger as they uncover a criminal plot

In the season three premiere of the hit CBS show Tracker, lead actor Justin Hartley's character Colter Shaw has gone missing after learning that a man named Otto killed his father, Ashton, in the previous season's shocking finale. Colter's family and colleagues have been searching for him for weeks, and it is his brother Russell, played by Jensen Ackles, who is able to track him down.
The brothers have a heartfelt conversation, with Russell trying to give their mother more grace than Colter is willing to. Colter is then pulled into a new case, where a man's ex-wife and teenage daughter have gone missing. The father believes the ex-wife's new husband is involved in shady dealings, and he hires Colter to find and bring his family back alive. Russell joins Colter on the adventure.
The premiere then follows the mother, who has been forced by a group of criminals to carry out various errands, including cutting off the hand of her dead new husband to open a safe and steal money and documents. The criminals use a burner phone to give the mother orders that she must complete within a certain time frame, or both her and her daughter's lives will be at risk.
By the end of the episode, it is revealed that this case has inadvertently put both Colter and Russell's lives in danger as well. Hartley says that in the rest of season three, Colter will find himself in a "sticky situation" where he has to use all his knowledge and skills to evade and keep away from authorities, rather than always being the one chasing someone.
