Stephen Colbert recently marked his dog Benny's seventh birthday with a social media post, sharing a photo of his Boykin Spaniel. Benny made a notable appearance during the final episode of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, which aired on March 21. In a whimsical finale, Benny sniffed a snow globe version of the Ed Sullivan Theater as the show's theme played.

Colbert hosted the show for 11 years before its cancellation by CBS in July 2025. The network cited financial reasons for the decision, stating it was unrelated to the show's performance. Despite initial disbelief, Colbert expressed deep gratitude for his time on The Late Show, acknowledging the incredible audience and the opportunity to work with talented people.

Reflecting on his tenure, Colbert suggested the show's end might have been a form of salvation, alluding to the demanding nature of daily hosting. He also shared that he has three adult children with his wife of 32 years. Now free from his late-night duties, Colbert anticipates pursuing other interests with renewed energy.
