Rhodes' Dark Turn: Orton Underestimates Fury
17 Oct
Summary
- Cody Rhodes showed unexpected darkness by punishing Baron Corbin.
- Randy Orton underestimated Rhodes' intensity in their feud.
- Sami Zayn is losing control of his championship.
On WWE SmackDown, Cody Rhodes demonstrated a darker, more vengeful side, delivering a brutal assault on Baron Corbin that surprised Randy Orton. Orton had previously doubted Rhodes' capacity for retribution after shattering his face with a punt prior to WrestleMania. Rhodes' actions suggest he is willing to inflict severe damage on anyone associated with Orton.
Elsewhere, Undisputed WWE Champion Sami Zayn finds his grip on the title weakening. The recent Money in the Bank winner, Penta, poses an immediate threat. Zayn attempted to manipulate Penta towards Roman Reigns, using Rey Fenix as part of his strategy to maintain control. The show also featured Trick Williams defeating Johnny Gargano and Paige overcoming Brie Bella.
CM Punk and Kevin Owens are slated for a future match once medically cleared. A bout between R-Truth and Damian Priest ended prematurely due to an apparent injury. Alexa Bliss and Tatum Paxley formed a new tag team alliance, and Rey Fenix successfully defended his AAA Cruiserweight Championship.
