Norwegian director Guro Bjerk's documentary, "In Cod We Trust," is scheduled to compete in the Newcomer Competition at the Thessaloniki Documentary Film Festival. The film, shot in Båtsfjord, Norway, a community where cod is central to life, delves into the essence of home and belonging.
Bjerk describes the village as a place where residents possess a rare sense of safety, trust, and openness. The documentary aims to showcase the warm and humorous nature of its inhabitants, set against the backdrop of a remote fishing locale.
International sales company Rise and Shine has acquired the distribution rights for "In Cod We Trust." The company's co-founder highlighted the film's relevance to countries experiencing similar issues in their fishing industries due to overfishing and climate change. The film's uplifting humor is expected to connect with a wide international audience.
"In Cod We Trust" is produced by Benedikte Bredesen of F(X) Productions in Norway, with co-production support from Wacky Tie Films in Finland. The winner of the Thessaloniki Newcomer Competition becomes eligible for an Oscar nomination.
