CoComelon Crew Pickets Show Over Contract Dispute
7 May
Summary
- IATSE is striking the second season of CoComelon: The Melon Patch.
- Crew members cite declining working conditions and increased workload.
- Production allegedly attempting to hire replacement workers.

The second season of the live-action YouTube series CoComelon: The Melon Patch is currently facing a strike initiated by the IATSE crew union. The union's efforts to unionize the production have been unsuccessful, leading to the picket line in Sun Valley, California. IATSE alleges that the producer is seeking to hire replacement workers instead of negotiating fair wages and benefits with the existing crew.
According to the union, 22 crew members who returned for the second season experienced a notable decrease in working conditions, alongside an expected increase in their workload. The strike commenced on Wednesday, which was the seventh day of a planned 16-day filming schedule. Reports indicate that the production has begun the process of hiring replacement workers, with at least one hired crew member subsequently joining the picket line.
Moonbug Entertainment, a Candle Media-owned company that produces CoComelon titles, has been contacted for comment. The Melon Patch is a spinoff of the highly popular original CoComelon YouTube channel, which gained significant traction in the late 2010s. The success of the animated videos has led to various spinoff series and has also raised concerns about their fast-paced and potentially addictive nature for young children. A CoComelon movie is slated for release by Universal Pictures in February 2027.
