Fearfolks has secured global sales rights for the body horror film "Cocoa Doll," starring Grace Duah. This marks the debut feature for director Jumai Yusuf, with a screenplay recognized on both the Muslim List and the WScripted Cannes Screenplay List.
The narrative follows a Black Muslim woman, portrayed by Duah, who discovers her employers, the wealthy McNeil family, transform previous staff into living dolls. Her struggle for survival and escape unfolds as she risks becoming another addition to their macabre collection.
Produced by Jake Casey, Jonathan Unger, and Steven Adams, with VFX supervision from Zoic Studios and BUF, the film is set to commence production in the fourth quarter of 2026. The project delves into themes of objectification and monstrous femininity, offering a powerful metaphor for societal treatment of Black women.
Director Jumai Yusuf's previous work includes the Oscar-qualified short film "Nate & John." Fearfolks, co-owned by Thailand's Benetone Films, is also developing Thai genre films and handling distribution for major studios in Thailand.
