Thiruvananthapuram Mayor V.V. Rajesh has voiced strong criticism regarding the high prices of food and tickets in some city cinema theatres. He highlighted a recent experience where a family incurred a charge of Rs 6,048.94 for seven movie tickets, only to be allocated seats corresponding to Rs 230 tickets. The family reportedly faced dismissive treatment when questioning this discrepancy and ended up watching the film from the front rows.
Mayor Rajesh also pointed out the significant markup on concessions, noting that popcorn available for approximately Rs 25-30 outside multiplexes can cost Rs 250-300 within. He stressed that the public supports the film industry and called for stakeholders to reach an agreement on pricing. The corporation plans to meet with theatre owners to discuss issues including parking, cleanliness, and safety, with public concerns on pricing to be raised.
