Chuck Negron, a pivotal voice in 1960s and 70s rock music, has died at the age of 83. Negron was a founding member and lead singer for the renowned group Three Dog Night, known for their string of hit songs. He passed away peacefully at his residence in Studio City, California, on Monday, surrounded by his family. His distinctive vocals graced many of the band's biggest successes.
Among his most recognizable performances are lead vocals on enduring hits such as 'Joy To The World (Jeremiah Was a Bullfrog),' 'One (Is the Loneliest Number),' and 'Old Fashioned Love Song.' Negron had been managing heart failure in recent months, in addition to a long-standing battle with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) that spanned three decades.
Three Dog Night was established in 1967 by Negron, Danny Hutton, and the late Cory Wells. Despite a decades-long estrangement, Negron reportedly reconnected with Hutton last year to reconcile. He is survived by his wife, Ami Albea Negron, five children, a brother, a sister, nine grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
