Dave Purchase, a local cafe owner, is aiming to set a new Guinness World Record by singing Christmas songs continuously for 42 hours. The challenge, which commenced at midnight on December 10th, takes place at Gloucester's docks. Purchase has selected 38 songs that he must repeat 18 times each, striving to bring the record title to his community.
To support his ambitious endeavor, Purchase will be joined by various groups, including a dementia choir and a children's choir. Members of the public are also participating by arriving in costumes of characters and singers associated with popular Christmas songs to help keep him alert and motivated throughout the prolonged singathon.
The world record attempt adheres to strict rules, allowing only a five-minute break per hour, with an option to accumulate breaks by singing for four consecutive hours to earn 20 minutes. Purchase acknowledges the crucial support from his team, highlighting their tireless efforts in making this unique event possible.
