- Applegate feels emotionally and physically mangled by the health incident.

Christina Applegate, 54, has revealed she lied when describing her 2008 double mastectomy as a "blessing" following an early-stage breast cancer diagnosis. In her new memoir, "You With The Sad Eyes," Applegate expresses profound regret over her past statements.
She candidly wrote that she was "disgusted by what came out of my mouth," acknowledging that she presented herself as "Little Ms. Warrior" rather than expressing her true feelings of grief and loss. Applegate stated she felt "alone and sad and mourning something that is the most intimate and devastating of amputations."
Applegate's BRCA1 genetic mutation prompted the double mastectomy. Years later, she admitted to Oprah Winfrey that she still cries daily about the surgery, explaining that the loss of her breasts left her "emotionally and physically mangled." She felt her dishonesty did "no service to anyone."
