13 Feb
Summary
- Composer Chris Tin will release a special figure skating edit of Puccini's opera.
- The condensed version of "Turandot" is for Japanese skater Yuma Kagiyama.
- This release follows fan demand and avoids recent music rights disputes.

American composer Christopher Tin has announced the upcoming release of a special figure skating edit of his completion of Puccini's "Turandot" on streaming services. This decision comes in response to significant demand from fans of the figure skating community.
The four-minute-17-second version was specifically adapted for Japanese skater Yuma Kagiyama by Tin and choreographer Lori Nichol. It condenses Tin's original 18-minute finale to accommodate the jumps, footwork, and necessary rest periods essential for an elite figure skating program.
Tin, a two-time Grammy winner, is in Milan to watch Kagiyama perform his free skate. The composer's proactive approach to music rights ensures a smooth experience, diverging from recent Olympic incidents where artists have challenged skaters over the use of their work.
Kagiyama's program, set to Tin's arrangement, coincides with the 100th anniversary of "Turandot's" premiere at Milan's La Scala opera house. The sweeping operatic score was recorded at London's Abbey Road Studios with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and the English National Opera Chorus.
