Black Crowes Singer Clashes with Crowd Over 'USA!' Chants

Chris Robinson, the frontman for The Black Crowes, has addressed controversy stemming from comments made during a May 31 concert in Tampa, Florida, as part of their Southern Hospitality tour. Following the song "Soul Singing," a segment of the audience initiated "U-S-A!" chants, reportedly coinciding with visuals of the band's mascot in Uncle Sam attire. Robinson's on-stage reaction was sharp, questioning the crowd's pride and admonishing those who booed, calling them "ignorant."

This exchange led to some audience members departing the venue, as documented in shared video footage. Speaking recently, Robinson suggested the incident was amplified online for engagement. He clarified that despite his personal views, he holds deep respect for veterans and military sacrifices, stating, "there's no way I would disrespect our veterans." He reiterated his commitment to speaking his mind and fostering a soulful connection with audiences, rather than pursuing a political agenda.

Robinson's comments drew particular attention as they occurred shortly after Memorial Day. He has previously expressed disinterest in politics, focusing instead on poetry, art, and human experience. The Black Crowes released their latest album, "A Pound of Feathers," in March and were nominated for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, though they were not inducted. The tour is scheduled to continue with upcoming shows in Augusta, Georgia, and Charlotte, North Carolina.
