Chile's TV Dramas Conquer Berlin Film Fest

Chile is asserting its presence at the 2026 Berlin International Film Festival, showcasing three prominent television series. This marks a notable shift, with the country now commanding significant attention for its drama productions, following its established reputation for auteur-driven cinema.

"The House of the Spirits," a limited series based on Isabel Allende's internationally acclaimed novel, is highlighted as Prime Video's most ambitious and expensive production ever filmed in Chile. The adaptation features a strong Chilean creative team, including showrunners and directors.

Alongside "The House of the Spirits," the festival also features "Raza Brava," a series delving into Chile's soccer underworld, and "Hidden Island," a mystery thriller set in Patagonia. These selections underscore a trend of Chilean filmmakers taking creative risks and producing high-quality content, often on more modest budgets.

Industry experts note that while Chilean productions are gaining international distribution, challenges remain, particularly concerning financing. Insufficient public funding and a scarcity of private investment in the industry are identified as key hurdles to continued growth.
