The Cannes Fantastic Pavilion has announced the winners of the Fantastic Lab Central America & Caribbean initiative. The grand prize was awarded to "We Won't Let the Goat Die," a fantasy drama co-produced by Costa Rica, Peru, and Panama. This project was presented by Baby Atómica, a partner of Fantastic Lab.
The initiative, which began at the Costa Rica Media Market, attracted 55 projects, selecting 15 for its first phase. Six finalists, including projects from El Salvador, the Dominican Republic, Honduras, and Costa Rica, will pitch at the upcoming Costa Rica Media Market in July. These selections reflect a strong regional trend in politically charged genre cinema.
"The winning projects demonstrate the growth and evolution of fantastic cinema in Central America and the Caribbean," stated Laura López, General Manager of Costa Rica's Foreign Trade Promotion Agency. Pablo Guisa, CEO of Grupo Morbido, added that the "tremendous success" of the first edition highlights the region's vibrant cultural landscape and the Fantastic Lab's role in enriching the genre community globally.
