Chiikawa Dominates South Korean Box Office for Third Weekend

The animated blockbuster "Chiikawa the Movie: The Secret of the Mermaid Island" has once again claimed the number one position at the South Korean box office. This marks its third consecutive weekend leading the charts.
During the weekend of Oct. 30-Nov. 1, the film generated $1.7 million from 221,651 ticket sales. Distributed by Toho and based on Nagano's manga, the movie has achieved a cumulative gross of $20.1 million from over 2.5 million admissions since its release on Sep. 30.
New releases saw "Heart of the Beast" open in second place with $1.2 million, followed by the workplace comedy "Ugly Duckling Ms. Maeng" in third. Political crime thriller "The Assassin(s)" remained in fourth place, nearing $25.5 million in its sixth week.
Overall market revenue for the weekend was $5.3 million, a slight decrease from the previous week's $5.6 million.
