Oscar-winning actress Charlize Theron has spoken out about a harrowing childhood incident where her father was killed. The actress revealed details about the event, which occurred when she was 15 years old in South Africa.

Theron described an argument with her father, who had been heavily drinking. The situation escalated when he became violent, firing shots through their home's steel doors. Theron and her mother hid in a bedroom, but her father continued shooting through the door.

Her mother then obtained her firearm and confronted Theron's father as he attempted to access more weapons from a safe. In an act of self-defense, her mother shot and killed him.

Theron highlighted the prevalence of domestic abuse, stating that many women face similar difficult situations. She credited her mother's resilience and her sending Theron to school the next day as instrumental in her healing process.
