Summary
- Singer felt like an outsider due to mixed-race heritage.
- This displacement fueled the creation of her album Brat.
- She is now pursuing multiple film projects.

Charli XCX has shared how her mixed-race background and resulting feelings of displacement were instrumental in crafting her acclaimed album, Brat. She described experiencing a sense of not belonging, whether at school or within her dual cultural identity as she was raised by her Scottish father and Indian mother.
This persistent feeling of being an outsider, a "concoction" born from not fully fitting into either her white or Indian heritage, became a catalyst for her artistic output. She noted that prior to 2016, this fear and displacement were significant, but it allowed her to create.
Beyond music, Charli XCX is expanding her creative horizons into filmmaking. She has seven film projects slated for release in 2025 and 2026, including "The Moment," a mockumentary where she plays a fictionalized version of herself during her Brat era.
