Charli XCX Distances Self From DJ's Alleged Russian Ties

Pop star Charli XCX has addressed international implications arising from her film "The Moment" premiere at the Berlin Film Festival. Following the event, the artist issued a statement on her Instagram Story to clarify her position regarding the afterparty organizer, DJ Anastasia Shevtsova.

Charli XCX stated that neither she nor her team had any prior knowledge of the alleged affiliations between DJ Shevtsova and Russian entities. The artist reiterated her firm stance against the atrocities committed by the Russian government in Ukraine and expressed solidarity with the Ukrainian people.

This clarification came after reports linked DJ Shevtsova's mother to Russia's Tradition Foundation, which allegedly has ties to Vladimir Putin's Presidential Foundation for Cultural Initiatives and has visited occupied Ukrainian cities. The article mentioned this connection as the basis for the controversy.

In response, DJ Anastasia Shevtsova, also known as Petit, released her own statement. She emphasized that her family resides in Russia, Belarus, and Ukraine, making the current conflict deeply personal. Shevtsova stressed her focus on her artistic work in Europe over the past four years and stated she is not involved in politics or activities connected to the conflict. She expressed a hope to be judged by her own actions and values, not by assumptions about her connections.

"The Moment," a meta mockumentary exploring fame and identity, previously debuted at Sundance last month. The film centers on a rising star's first arena tour and her struggle to maintain creative freedom amidst her success.
