"Bleeding Hearts," directed by Andrew Morgan, intimately documents the evolving relationship and nascent band, Chaparelle, formed by country musicians Zella Day and Jesse Woods. The film chronicles a pivotal year, capturing their romance as they embark on their first cross-country tour.

Woods, 43, a solitary songwriter prone to depression, found a vibrant counterpart in Day, who is 12 years his junior. Their contrasting energies are described as "stars and gravity," with Day's effervescence complementing Woods' stoic nature. This dynamic mirrors familiar cinematic narratives of tortured artists finding solace.

Day sought authenticity after a draining decade in L.A.'s pop scene, while Woods was recovering from personal struggles at his Wimberley, Texas cabin. Their collaboration began in 2021, leading to the formation of Chaparelle with producer Beau Bedford. Morgan, inspired by an early demo, proposed documenting their "first year" in real-time.

Filmed in a stark black and white reminiscent of "Don't Look Back," the documentary immerses viewers in the band's experiences. Despite a small budget and a team of five on the road, Morgan aimed for an intimate, home-video feel, capturing candid moments of both harmony and conflict.

The film portrays the couple's clashes over performance styles and their resistance to constant social media content creation. They face industry pressures, including an A&R representative suggesting Day re-record music without Woods.
