Chad Gilbert, the guitarist for New Found Glory, has shared details of his recent health battle involving new brain tumors. In February, just as the band released their latest album, Gilbert experienced a sudden loss of control over the left side of his body, a symptom linked to his ongoing treatment for adrenocortical carcinoma.
His wife described the terrifying moment when doctors discovered three new brain tumors, one pressing on his brain and causing his motor control issues. Following surgery to remove the largest tumor, Gilbert showed significant improvement, even regaining movement in his left hand.
However, his condition later deteriorated due to dangerously low sodium levels, impacting his cognitive function and causing hallucinations. He underwent 10 rounds of radiation to treat the remaining tumors and is now on a specialized immunotherapy plan.
Despite the arduous month-long hospitalization, Gilbert maintains a positive outlook, viewing his fight as an opportunity to inspire others. He continues to write music, even from his hospital bed, and hopes to perform locally soon, though he acknowledges a full return to touring is unlikely.
