16 Sep
Summary
- CBGB Festival returns to NYC Sept. 26 with legendary acts.
- Patti Smith and Morrissey set to headline the event.
- The festival honors CBGB's legacy with veteran and new artists.
The CBGB Festival is set to electrify New York City again on September 26, returning to Under the K Bridge Park. This year's lineup boasts an impressive array of legendary artists, including Patti Smith, Morrissey, and the Sex Pistols featuring Frank Carter. The festival, now in its second year at this location, aims to capture the raw energy and spirit of the iconic CBGB club.
Music industry veteran Phil Sandhaus, who now owns the CBGB trademark, spearheaded the festival's return. He envisions the event as a celebration of both veteran acts and emerging artists who carry the CBGB legacy forward. Sandhaus noted the strong new punk and new wave movements contributing to the festival's contemporary relevance.
This year's festival promises improvements based on attendee feedback, including more food options and better sightlines, particularly for VIP areas. While currently focused on New York City, Sandhaus expressed ambitions to expand the CBGB Festival to other cities with strong punk scenes in the future, potentially even reopening a physical CBGB club.
