Cate Blanchett's Stage Plea: Stop Filming My Performance!

Cate Blanchett recently made a public appeal to audience members attending the London production of "Electra/Persona" to stop recording her performance. The acclaimed actress expressed that theaters offer a rare space for genuine presence and connection, and that filming disrupts this shared experience for future attendees. She highlighted that while she understands the inclination to film curtain calls, recording the performance itself detracts from the audience's engagement.

The play, running at the National Theatre until October 10, sees Blanchett and co-star Nina Hoss ingeniously alternate between the characters of Electra/Elisabeth and Clytemnestra/Alma each night, determined by a coin toss. This innovative production weaves together elements from Sophocles's ancient Greek tragedy "Electra" and Ingmar Bergman's iconic 1996 film "Persona."

Blanchett, who began her illustrious career in theater, previously shared that she initially never envisioned a film career, believing her place was solely on the stage. She also spoke about her upcoming film, "The Brutalist," by director Brady Corbet, which is expected to be X-rated and set in the 1970s.
