Cannock Theatre Faces Demolition Amid Regeneration
27 Nov, 2025
Summary
- Prince of Wales Theatre in Cannock may be demolished.
- The theatre closed in April due to budget shortfalls.
- Council leaders will decide on demolition next week.

The Prince of Wales Theatre in Cannock, Staffordshire, faces potential demolition as part of a significant regeneration project for the town centre. The theatre, which ceased operations in April to address budget deficits within Cannock Chase Council, is now earmarked for demolition alongside the Civic Centre. Council leaders are scheduled to make a final decision on this proposal next week, following an earlier approval to demolish the adjacent Forum Shopping Centre.
In February, the council made the decision to permanently close the venue and subsequently rejected a community asset transfer to the Cannock Chase Theatre Trust in September. Officers noted that the theatre requires substantial investment to be repurposed and must be decommissioned to prevent ongoing costs. The Civic Centre's demolition is also planned to make way for a major retailer and potential social housing.
