Festival Bans Stoves Amid Fire Fears
30 Jul
Summary
- Festival banned camping stoves and BBQs due to dry conditions.
- Designated cooking areas with hot water are provided.
- Fireworks and flares are also prohibited for safety.

Camp Bestival, scheduled from Thursday to Sunday at Lulworth Castle in Dorset, is implementing a ban on camping stoves and disposable barbecues for tents. This decision comes in response to expected hot weather and dry ground conditions.
The festival organisers are working closely with Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service to prioritize safety. As alternatives, dedicated campsite cooking areas have been established, offering attendees free access to hot water.
This measure follows several wildfires in the region this summer, exacerbated by high temperatures and drought conditions. Notably, a previous festival incident on July 17 involved a camping stove igniting a tent, leading to a significant heathland fire.
Integrated stoves within campervans will still be permitted. The festival, now in its 18th year and run by DJ Rob da Bank, will still feature performances from artists like Fatboy Slim and Self Esteem.
