Caitríona Balfe is set to star in a new Apple TV+ series titled 'Ascension,' marking her first project since the conclusion of 'Outlander.' Balfe will portray Rose, a recently divorced documentary filmmaker who delves into the history of a 20th-century cult known as the Church of Ascension.
The series explores the alluring teachings of the cult, which Rose initially finds as refuge, only to uncover a more sinister undercurrent. 'Ascension' promises to delve into profound themes of evil and innocence, questioning the extent of personal sacrifice for loved ones.
Alfonso Cuarón is executive producing, writing, and will direct parts of the series. He is co-showrunning with Natalie Erika James and Christian White. The project is inspired by Adam Nevill's novel 'Last Days' and hails from Apple Studios.
