A concert celebrating the legacy of sarod maestro Pandit Buddhadev Dasgupta, titled Transformations, recently captivated audiences. The event, presented by Soumikdatta Arts and Baithak UK, featured a unique musical dialogue between the maestro's compositions and Rabindrasangeet.
Five of Dasgupta's students, including contemporary composer Soumik Datta, performed his bandish works. These pieces drew significant inspiration from the rich tradition of Rabindrasangeet. Complementing these performances, vocalists presented classic Rabindrasangeet numbers.
The ensemble was further supported by skilled musicians on the tabla and keyboard. Chief guest Pramita Mallick shared personal anecdotes, highlighting Dasgupta's profound influence as a teacher and mentor, particularly mentioning his tutelage of Soumik Datta.
The concert marked a significant reunion for Dasgupta's disciples and singers who had not performed together in some time. The overwhelming response saw the event sell out rapidly, prompting discussions about a possible repeat performance in Kolkata.
