The chimpanzee once famously pictured with pop star Michael Jackson, Bubbles, is alive and well at 43 years old. He currently resides at the Center for Great Apes in Wauchula, Florida.
Founding director Patti Ragan shared that Bubbles, weighing around 170 pounds, is a sweet individual and is now living with a group of five other chimpanzees. The sanctuary is in the process of introducing younger chimpanzees to his group.
Bubbles was moved to the sanctuary in 2005 after spending his early years at Jackson's Neverland Ranch. He has since assisted in raising two baby chimpanzees there, demonstrating his good nature with youngsters.
Though he moves a bit slower now and sometimes needs extra time to climb, Bubbles eats well and enjoys his days. His favorite activities include eating fruits, vegetables, and leafy greens, as well as playing with Velcro backpacks to carry his cherished items.
