Brookmyre's New Novel: A Locked-Room Mystery

Scottish crime writer Christopher Brookmyre has launched his newest novel, titled Quite Ugly One Evening. This latest release is described as a locked-room mystery that includes a significant twist. The narrative sees the return of one of Brookmyre's most cherished characters, the distinctive Scottish investigative journalist Jack Parlanbane, who is adept at pursuing stories in unconventional environments.

Brookmyre shared that his literary inspirations for Quite Ugly One Evening come from three specific books. These include Iain Banks's The Steep Approach to Garbadale, published in 2007; Jonathan Coe's The Proof of My Innocence, released in 2024; and Marian Keyes's Grown Ups, which came out in 2020.
